Strand Celtic FC / International Honours

Strand Celtic are proud to have produced a number of players who have played for their country.

GAVIN DYKES

Gavin played for Strand Celtic youth and Senior team before going on to captain Sligo Rovers to win the FAI Cup. Gavin was capped for the Republic of Ireland Amateur Team. Gavin is now assistant manager at Sligo Rovers.

JIMMY COLREAVY

Jimmy was a long serving player who played across the backline for Strand Celtic and was part of the Strand Celtic treble winning team in 1999. Jimmy also played representative football for the Sligo/Leitrim League. Jimmy played for the Republic of Ireland Amateur Team. Jimmy continues to live in Strandhill village and plays with our veteran’s team.

STEPHEN ROONEY

Stephen was a goalkeeper for the club who also played for Summerhill College. Stephen was capped for the Republic of Ireland Amateur Team in a triangular tournament held in Sligo. Stephen continues to coach in Cork where he now lives and has been involved in Munster Senior League sides. Stephen now coaches goalkeepers and is a regular visitor back to the club.

BARRY O’MAHONEY

Barry was selected for the Republic of Ireland Schoolboys side and has also played for the Republic of Ireland Universities Team at the world Student Games in Russia in 2012. Barry came through the clubs youth system before graduating to play with Belvedere in the DDSL. Barry was part of youth team who won the Sligo/Leitrim and District League at U14, U16 and U18 level. Barry also played for our senior side Barry currently plays with Mervue United in the Airtricity League and was selected this season on the PFAI Team of the Season.

BRONAGH KERINS

Bronagh was capped for the Republic of Ireland U17 and U19 sides. Bronagh was an industrious and skilful midfield player and brought our girls U16 and U18 sides to league titles. Bronagh is now on a soccer scholarship in the US. The Kerins Family has donated the Bronagh Kerins Perpetual Trophy which is presented to the clubs girls player of the year each season.

EMMA HANSBERRY

Emma was capped for the Republic of Ireland U17, U19, Universities Senior Team and Universities Futsal teams. She is the only player ever to play in a FIFA World cup competing in Trinidad and Tobago for the Republic of Ireland U17. Emma has also represented the Republic of Ireland Colleges team at the World University Games in Russia in 2012. Emma still plays for Castlebar Celtic in the Women’s National League and continues to coach at the club each Saturday in our Soccer Sisters section. Emma is also playing in the 2013 WFAI Cup final at the Aviva Stadium.

LAUREN BOLES

Lauren was a stalwart in our midfield with Emma in several successful U16 and u18 sides. Lauren is originally from Ballygawley and was selected for the Republic of Ireland U17 side. Lauren has graduated to play in the Women National League with Castlebar Celtic and is playing in the 2013 WFAI Cup final at the Aviva Stadium.

LORCAN CALLAGHAN

Lorcan was selected for the Republic of Ireland squad for the 2014 Hiberna Cup following outstanding performances with Strand Celtic and the Sligo-Leitrim squad in the 2013/2014 season. Lorcan joined the club from real Tubber in 2013 and was goalkeeper with our U14 and U15 squads during that season. An outstanding goalkeeper who is also an excellent communicator. Lorcan is also in the FAI Regional Emerging Talent Centre.

RYAN SMITH

Ryan was selected for the Republic of Ireland squad for the 2014 Hiberna Cup following outstanding performances with Strand Celtic and the Sligo-Leitrim squad in the 2013/2014 season. Ryan has been with the club since the age of six. Ryan can play across the back four and in midfield. He was also part of our Foyle Cup squad in 2014. Ryan is also in the FAI Regional Emerging Talent Centre.
