Well done to our 3 Senior team players who were part of the winning Sligo Leitrim DSL team that played earlier today. This game meant that there was no Senior or Reserve matches over the weekend.

Leo Doherty, Ayomide Olabode and Conor Burke all played their part in a 5-2 win over the Roscommon District League.

The Sligo Leitrim DSL representative welcomed the Roscommon DSL to Mac Sharry Park for the 2nd Round of the Oscar Traynor. Kick off for some mysterious reason was scheduled for a 2pm Kick Off that ensured a very small crowd, while the Galway Mayo game was changed to a 4pm Kick Off allowing both sides to know what they needed to do. Roscommon were first out of the blocks on 11 minutes when Thomas Hurley hit the back of the SLDSL net with a superb effort. The SLDSL showed their composure and on 20 minutes had the sides level with a well taken goal. The SLDSL 2 minutes later were in the lead when Number 4 Jack Higgins handled in the penalty area. Captain Ryan Mc Manus stepped up and blasted the ball into the top left corner of the Roscommon net, and the home side were now in control. On 27 minutes Stephen Fallon hit a block buster of a shot that keeper Conor Cooke spilled and Israel Ayoizind reacted quickest to fire home SLDSL now 3-1 and coasting. But the SLDSL got complacent and on 40 minutes paid the price. Lee Conway in a reckless challenge took down Roscommon’s Jason Mc Philibin and Charlie Nevin blasted home from the penalty spot leaving the scoreline at halftime 3-2 in favour of the Sligo Leitrim DSL and a second half with it all to play for.

The second half opened with both sides very cautious as the next goal could well prove to be decisive. The Sligo Leitrim hit gold with 11 minutes remaining. A corner on the left side taken by Shane Rooney seen Stephen Fallon rise highest in the Penalty area to head powerfully past the Roscommon net minder Conor Cooke. In the dying minutes Israel Ayorinde was taken down in the penalty area and Ashton Conlon rifled home from the penalty spot to leave the SLDSL victorious 5 –2 in the end. December 14th Eamonn Deacy Park v Galway League sees it all to play for.
