Proceeds from the 50 / 50 draw are ring-fenced entirely for paying off loans raised for the development of the community park facilities. To date, the draw has generated over €70,000 which has been used to pay out prizes and for debt reduction.
This debt was key in delivering the floodlit community walkway and spectator facilities and we are continuing to source funds to ensure incremental improvements such as the roundabout, outdoor gym equipment as well as repairs and upgrading of the children’s play area. The latest developments have delivered new floodlights, essential playground repairs and will see the replacement of the astro surface by the end of February – all thanks to grants from Sports Capital, Sligo County Council, and Sligo Leader.
The community park facilities are used by a broad range of groups including Strand Celtic (500+ members), active age groups, community games, after-school group, karate, etc and we are anxious to maximise its usage for all the community.
So if you have any ideas as to how we can improve the facilities or want to get involved with maintenance, grant applications or in any way you think might assist, then please get in touch through coaches or a committee member.
In order to provide more funds towards development, we are aiming to get to 200 members. We are a some way short of that and are looking to increase our draw numbers to generate funds for further community park development, so please continue to like, share and comment on the draw on your social media accounts and help get all the community behind the park development.
