A great evening for our club and community as we turned the sod in the latest phase of our development plan. Trustees chairman Peter Tiernan and Club Chairman Jorge Correia did the honours with representatives from Arken construction. Arken have been appointed to the project.
In attendance also were other trustees, members of our development committee and senior team captain Aaron o Boyle and vice captain mark mccallion. Social distancing was observed in current circumstances.
This latest phase transforms our park into an ECO park with new waste management systems, Low energy LED lighting, rainwater harvesting system to feed our pitch irrigation system, new waste and foul water systems, solar power to operate all power and lighting including our scoreboard. In addition we will have a spectator area with disability access and a mother and baby changing area for people in the playground. There will also be a bicycle storage area to encourage kids to reduce car usage and a floodlit community walkway around our pitches for people walking/jogging in the winter.
The total project cost is 230,000. We are supported by Sligo leader, sports capital and our loans are financed with clann credo. In addition our neighbours Strandhill caravan park have provided some finance fir the project. Sligo county council, through a number of councillors led by Cllr Rosaleen O Grady, have also provided support through developing part of the walkway. Our club have taken out extensive loans and used a lot of our own funds saved for the project.
